Purpose of Position:

Performs a variable range of services and maintenance such as inspections, testing, adjustments, and balancing of HVAC/R systems for industrial and commercial customers performing the following duties.

Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other potential duties can be assigned:

  • Performs routine maintenance and service activities, with specialization in refrigeration and HVAC, normally without direct supervision or on-site assistance
  • As required, serves as a member of an ad hoc company team organized to address a major service or installation job in an efficient, timely and profitable manner
  • In areas of expertise, may assist a Maintenance Supervisor in the training of new technicians of service related subjects, including call-back prevention and equipment protocols
  • Operates, maintains and secures a company vehicle in accordance with the instructions discussed in the current Company Employee handbook
  • Conducts periodic on-call (after hours) duty
  • Studies system blueprints, specifications, and performance data to determine configuration and purpose of system components such as motors, pumps, fans, switches, ducts, or pipes
  • Discusses system malfunctions with users to isolate problems
  • Inspect systems to verify compliance with plans and specifications and to detect malfunctions in system component parts
  • Adjusts system controls to settings recommended by vendor to prepare to perform tests
  • Tests performance of air and hydronic systems to isolate problems and determine where adjustments are necessary
  • Opens or closes louvers in system ductwork or adjusts flow control valves in piping to balance system
  • Discusses system operation with users to verify that malfunctions have been corrected
  • Knows and practices good work and safety habits, including knowledge of important MSDS, equipment safety, tool safety, and ladder safety guidelines; willing to learn CPR

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises three employees in the Apprenticeship Program. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

  • Current unblemished State vehicle operator’s license; ability to operate all vehicles in the company fleet safely; insurable

Education:

  • Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school;
  • One to two years related experience and/or training, or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Language Ability:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization

Math Ability:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Computer Skills:

  • Word processing, spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, inventory

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Certified in handling and use of refrigerants

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the environment is loud.
