Edison Enterprises uses an electronic system for tracking all incoming resumes. This increases your chance for being considered for positions you may be qualified for but never submitted an application. The information on your resume is scanned into our database and kept on-line for one year. Edison Enterprises recruiters search the computer for candidates using key words suitable for the position they are looking to fill. To help the system work to your advantage, make sure your resume is legible for scanning and informative.

Here are some tips on formatting your resume:

  • Use white or light-colored 8-1/2" x 11" size paper.
  • Provide a laser quality original, if possible.
  • Do not fold or staple your resume.
  • Use standards fonts, such as Times or Courier.
  • Use a font sizes between 10 and 14 points.
  • Place your name at the top of the page on its own line.
  • Use standard address format below your name.
  • Use boldface and/or all capital letters for headings.
  • Avoid fancy treatments, such as italics and shadows.
  • Avoid vertical and horizontal lines, graphics and boxes.
  • Avoid two-column formatting.
  • Don't condense spacing between letters.

The computer extracts information from your resume. Recruiters and managers can access the resume database to search for specific requirements and job experience, or they can search for your particular resume. In order to maximize your opportunities at matching job requirements, try to add a few key words that you feel would detail your strongest points and/or qualifications.

Below are a few tips on how to increase your chances of "getting hit" in the resume database:

  • Use enough key words to define your skills, experience, education, professional affiliations, etc.
  • Describe your experience with concrete words rather than vague descriptions.
  • Be concise and truthful.
  • Use more than one page, if necessary. The computer can easily handle multiple-page resumes.
  • Increase your list of key words by including specifics.
  • Use common headings, such as Objectives , Experience , Employment , Work History , Skills , Affiliations , etc.
  • If you have extra space, describe your interpersonal traits and attitude.
  • Use jargon and acronyms specific to your industry (also spell out the acronyms for human readers).
