Edison Enterprises Launches New Business Initiatives to Market Transmission/Distribution Services and Consumer Products
through Utility Alliances

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif., Dec. 12, 1997—Taking advantage of new opportunities in the fast-changing electric utility industry, Edison Enterprises, the retail business arm of Edison International, has announced the formation of two corporate entities that will focus on providing a wide range of products and services to utilities throughout North America.

Edison Utility Services, the fourth and newest company under the Edison Enterprises umbrella, will offer a diverse array of services to electric utilities nationwide and in Canada, including—but not limited to—billing and transmission and distribution outsourcing.

Edison Utility Alliances is a special corporate unit that will market the consumer products and services of Edison Enterprises’ retail companies to electric and gas utilities through a variety of alliances. These products include home security and monitoring services, Internet access services, personal computer repair services, electrical and appliance repair services and renewable energy for residential and small business customers.

"Beginning Jan. 1, 1998, our new marketing initiatives will allow Edison Enterprises to offer a wide array of products and services to utility companies," said Stephen E. Pazian, president and CEO. "These initiatives become especially important as the electricity industry moves toward a more competitive marketplace. We expect both Edison Utility Services and Edison Utility Alliances to build strong, strategic partnerships throughout North America and beyond."

Pazian has appointed Dennis Eastman to head Edison Utility Services as senior vice president and general manager. A twenty-eight year industry veteran, Eastman was most recently vice president of business development in strategic planning and new business development at Edison International. Prior to that, he was division vice president of Southern California Edison’s electric distribution business unit.

Pazian has appointed Diane O. Wittenberg president of Edison Utility Alliances. She will also will retain her responsibilities as president and CEO of Edison EV (Electric Vehicles). Wittenberg has established a professional reputation for building strategic partnerships, most recently with major domestic and foreign auto manufacturers. Under her leadership, Edison EV has quickly become the leading developer of electric vehicle charging systems and infrastructure in support of the new EV market.

"Dennis and Diane are both respected and recognized for their excellent performance in a changing industry," Pazian said. "We are confident our customers and shareholders will benefit from their exceptional leadership, expertise and extensive industry networks they have established."

Today’s announcement brings the total of Edison Enterprises companies to four: Edison Source, which specializes in bringing innovative energy solutions to business and residential customers; Edison Select, which markets a broad range of consumer products and services; Edison EV (Electric Vehicles), the leading developer of electric vehicle charging systems and infrastructure; and now, Edison Utility Services, which specializes in billing and transmission and distribution outsourcing services.
